Incredible, that after such a long and varied career, Hitchcock could produce such a superbly constructed collection that perfectly balances his musical and lyrical quirkiness with his ear for great melodies, witty observations, and earnest, heartfelt contemplation. I'd put it in my top 5.
I think his Egyptians stuff was more consistent, overall and only really love a few of his solo albums. I'm probably in the minority in thinking I Often Dream of Trains is overrated. Spooky is quite good and I really liked Jewels for Sophia.

With the Egyptians (they're sorely missed), Element of Light is up there as the best, but I think Perspex Island is really underrated. They'are all good albums but my least favorite is Respect which isn't as strong as the others.

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05162133148193857168noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20443115207766610.post-17992802466759771022019-10-11T13:13:07.093-05:002019-10-11T13:13:07.093-05:00The self titled album from 2017 (I think) is defin...The self titled album from 2017 (I think) is definitely top 5 material. Some of his best material in ages. Globe of Frogs was also much better than Queen Elvis, should have made the list. And Perspex Island is underrated. Black Snake Diamond Role is no worse than #2 on any Hitchcock list.MoeLarryAndJesushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06448850293565754652noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20443115207766610.post-65482672311648350902013-11-26T12:43:26.437-06:002013-11-26T12:43:26.437-06:00You got to be shitting me -how can you possibly om...You got to be shitting me -how can you possibly omit BLACK SNAKE DIAMOND ROLE from this list? Gratefully free of throwaway guff (unlike some of his later albums) this record is RH firing on all cylinders at his most melodically inventive. Queen Elvis is very patchy by comparison. nigelpassmorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00499100206904653138noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20443115207766610.post-46864124931490136072011-10-20T15:31:08.974-05:002011-10-20T15:31:08.974-05:00Thanks for stopping by!
I've warmed to "...Thanks for stopping by!

I've warmed to "Goodnight Oslo" since it came out--lot of great stuff on there--but can't agree about "Propellor Time." There is an aborted post somewhere about how I think that alternate versions of "Sicky Boy" and "Afterlight" (on official releases) are markedly better than the ones that wound up on the album.

You're right about "You & Oblivion" though, it collects a lot of good stuff.Aaronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17389566303984348920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20443115207766610.post-31597958586577461712011-10-16T21:22:19.983-05:002011-10-16T21:22:19.983-05:00I almost entirely agree with this list - remarkabl...I almost entirely agree with this list - remarkable given the scope of his catalog! I'd swap "You & Oblivion" in for "Can Of Bees", though. "Ole Tarantula" is indeed sublime, though the other two Venus 3 albums have top tier work as well (especially the title track from "Goodnight Oslo").Mitchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15500117694201804098noreply@blogger.com
